HAVE A GO MOTORSPORT FOR LADIES & YOUTH
The ideal opportunity for ladies and youngsters to give motorsport a go has arrived.
The Eastern Southland Car Club is holding a Ladies and Under 18 Have A Go Fun Day Grass Autocross event this Saturday 23 February at Rakahouka near Invercargill. Entry is free thanks to a joint Eastern Southland Car Club, MotorSport New Zealand, Youth in Motorsport & Women in Motorsport promotion.
An autocross is a short timed event run against the clock with competitors given several opportunities to beat their time.
The event will take place at 136 King Road at Rakahouka and will be signposted from the Lorneville –Dacre Road (State Highway 98). It will be a road car friendly event, or any car that is of a warrantable standard. Only road tyres may be used and the club will have a manual car or two available for those who wish to use them.
There are limited spaces so book yours today either on the Eastern Southland Car Club facebook page, by PM, or by contacting Hannah on 027 306 9262 or Roger at 0274 368 876 and if you require a car from the club, please let them know when entering. If you enter and then can no longer make it, please advise the club.
Competition will be split into classes – one for males under 18 years of age as at 1 June 2018, one for females under 18 years old as at 1 June 2018 and one for first time competitors and those with limited competition experience and one for anyone that does not fit those classes. Rally star Derek Ayson will be on hand as a driver coach and it is fitting that the Clerk Of The Course for the event is one of the lady members of the club, Hannah Krammer.
Those aged from 12 to 16 years of age will need a signed consent from a parent or guardian, the easiest way to do this is on the entry form on the www.escc.co.nz website and it is wise for all competitors to check the Eastern Southland Car Club facebook page for full details before entering.
The only other thing you need is to come along, give it a go and have a truck load of fun!
There are a number of under 18 year olds & ladies competing in the club’s ClubSport Basic events and there is definitely room for more, so tell your friends, come along, have some laughs, feel what happens when a car slides in a safe controlled environment and you may just get hooked on these cool events and learn a bit to help you on the road at the same time.
Documentation will take place from 11am to 12.30pm with driver briefing at 12.45pm and entry is free!
A lighthearted prizegiving and bbq will follow the event on site.
