Applications open for 2023 Elite MotorSport Academy of New Zealand

Applications for the 2023 Elite MotorSport Academy of New Zealand are open. Young kiwi competitors who hold all types of competition licences with MotorSport New Zealand and its affiliates are encouraged to put their names forward for the renowned elite training academy

International stars such as Shane van Gisbergen, Hayden Paddon, Brendon Hartley, Earl Bamber, Nick Cassidy, Mitch Evans, and Andre Heimgartner are all part of the over 140 graduates who have all graduated from the academy.

Designed to equally benefit those who compete in Race, Rally, ClubSport, and KartSport disciplines, the academy program sees multiple participants take part in a week-long camp at the Otago Academy of Sport. At the camp, they are given intensive courses in fitness, nutrition, media, sponsorship, and mental performance. Each participant then receives a personalised 12-month program where they continue to work with providers of the academy to further their development.

Bolstering the academy for 2023 is the appointment of Richard Giltrap to the MotorSport New Zealand Scholarship Trust, responsible for driving the academy’s overall program and funding. Giltrap brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in motorsport, business, and governance to the trust and the academy.

MotorSport New Zealand President and trustee of the Scholarship Trust, Wayne Christie, looks forward to another Elite Motorsport Academy selection process.

“We really encourage aspiring young competitors to get their applications in early for the 2023 Elite MotorSport Academy to enable the trustees to observe your progress during the summer,” said Christie.

“New Zealand is full of motorsport talent. Few countries can boast such an impressive line-up of top-level competitors on the world stage as we can.

“I’m delighted to welcome Richard Giltrap on board as a trustee, joining Lyall Williamson, David Turner, Alastair Wootten and myself,” added Christie.

“Richard, his family and the Giltrap Group has been incredible supporters of motorsport in New Zealand and have put their faith, backing and enthusiasm into helping take Kiwi competitors to the top level internationally.”

The 2023 edition of the academy camp will take place in Dunedin from 2-8 July 2023. More information and the application form can be found by clicking here. Applications will close on 10 March 2023.
