Watson wins Kings Grass Autocross
Steven Watson of Invercargill took the overall honours at the Southland Sports Car Club King’s Grass Autocross at the King family farm at Rakahouka near Invercargill on Sunday.
Watson recorded a time of 90.06 seconds in his Toyota Starlet GT to head off Eastern Southland Car Club competitor Lucy Noble in a Toyota Corolla whose best was a 93.46. Cole McKinnon was third in a Toyota Corolla FXGT with a best of 93.73 followed by Southland Sports Car Club President Ian Richardson who placed fourth in his Nissan Pulsar just .04 of a second behind McKinnon.
Extra interest was added to the event with an emergency services challenge with teams from the Fire Service and St John teams duking it out in the Evolution Motorsport Nissan Sentra which is always available for use. with the Ambos taking bragging rights by the smallest of margins.
Several younger competitors were amongst the entries with Daniel and Alana Breen who had virtually no experience in a manual car also using the Evolution Motorsport Nissan Sentra, and doing very well.
The club will hold the final round of the 2020/2021 Evolution Motorsport Clubsport Championship at Teretonga Park on Sunday 7 March and all are welcome. The Evolution Motorsport Nissan Sentra will again be available for just a $20 hire fee and anyone interested in Clubsport is welcome to come along for a look. Admission is free.
