New Zealand Hill Climb Championships set for finale

The final round of the 2020 MotorSport New Zealand Hill Climb Championship takes place this weekend in the stunning Port Waikato.

The event hosted by the Pukekohe Car Club will see the Tarmac event and title for the Seal Challenge awarded on Saturday with the Gravel Challenge being contested on Sunday. Sunset Farms and Limestone Downs will hold the competitions over the two days.

Heading into the weekend, Hawkes Bay’s Cameron Morison, a multiple NZ Clubsport Goldstar Champion, has a narrow 2.67 point lead over Blenheim’s Richard Bateman in the Seal Challenge. Dannevirke’s Michael McLean sits 9.49 points back in third.

In the Gravel Challenge, Bateman holds a narrow 3.82 point lead over, Michael McLean, with reigning NZ Hillclimb Champion Andrew Elder holding third place in the challenge. But unfortunately, Elder will not be competing this weekend, leaving the door open to Robin Feck of Dannevirke or Steve Cattermole of Blenheim to move up onto the podium.

Also on the line is the NZ 2WD Championship, with the title fight between Taranaki’s Scott Harland in his mighty Mini and Steve Cattermole in his Datsun 1200.

Entries are still open for those who want to join in the action, simply enter online using MotorSport New Zealand’s online.
