Applications Open for FIA Motorsport Engineering Scholarship at Cranfield University
The FIA has announced the opening of applications for its prestigious FIA Motorsport Engineering Scholarship, now in its third year, at Cranfield University. This initiative offers one exceptional student the chance to pursue a fully funded postgraduate degree at Cranfield, a world-renowned postgraduate institution specializing in motorsport engineering.
For the first time, applicants can select between two cutting-edge Master’s programmes: Advanced Motorsport Engineering or Advanced Motorsport Mechatronics. The latter is a high-demand discipline focused on integrating mechanical and electrical systems, enabling rapid adaptability within the fast-paced motorsport environment.
Introduced in 2022 by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, the scholarship aims to foster diversity and inclusion in motorsport by removing financial barriers for talented individuals worldwide.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem commented: “We are delighted to open the FIA Motorsport Engineering Scholarship for a third year. As a knowledge-led organisation, we have expanded educational and training opportunities through partnership programmes overseen by our FIA University. This year’s scholarship will mark another key step forward for our Federation and our community in this area.”
Past recipients of the scholarship have exemplified the programme’s impact. Muhammad Yasir of Pakistan, the 2023-2024 scholar, described his achievement as life-changing: “The moment I received the news that I was awarded the FIA scholarship was nothing short of a dream come true! This isn’t just a personal milestone—it’s a significant leap forward in my professional journey, opening doors to opportunities I had only ever imagined. This recognition pushes me to work even harder and embrace every challenge that comes my way with unwavering commitment.”
Cranfield University has been at the forefront of motorsport innovation since the 1970s, offering extensive research, consultancy, and testing services. The institution ranks among the global top 30 for mechanical and aeronautical engineering and is home to the FIA-approved Cranfield Impact Centre and AXSIM Racing, both widely used by leading racing teams worldwide.
Professor James Brighton, Professor of Automotive Engineering at Cranfield University, highlighted the significance of the scholarship: “We’re delighted to be continuing this scholarship opportunity with the FIA. There are barriers to entry in the motorsport industry, and this scholarship presents a great opportunity for a talented student to build the skills, attributes, and networks needed to excel in their career.”
