Track to Town Supercars journey to set the stage for the inaugural Taupō Super400
All 24 Supercars will take part in a first-of-its-kind Track to Town journey, making their way from the Taupō International Motorsport Park to Taupo’s lakeside precinct where drivers will meet with fans on the eve of this year’s highly anticipated New Zealand event.
The Track to Town will see all drivers drive their Chevrolet Camaros and Ford Mustangs from the circuit on an 8.6km journey to the Roberts Street live site on Thursday 18 April, the day before opening practice of the first-ever ITM Taupō Super400.
The convoy is set to depart at 3:45pm local time and fans are encouraged to line the streets along the route to capture the Supercars in action against the stunning backdrop of Taupō before they arrive to Tapuaeharuru on the lakefront located near the #LOVETAUPŌ sign in the town centre.
All 24 Supercars cars will remain on display during an autograph session for fans, before drivers embark on the trip back to the circuit ahead of Friday’s opening practice.
Supercars Chief Operating Officer Tim Watsford said: “We are sincerely grateful to the Taupō District Council for their unwavering support in making this unique event possible.
“The Track to Town journey is an exciting project that brings the Supercars experience right to the heart of Taupō, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to showcase our sport in such a vibrant community.”
“We invite fans to join us at the live site and at vantage points along the way, as Supercars take to the streets against the breathtaking backdrop of Taupō.”
Following Thursday night’s autograph session in Taupō, there will be two nights of concerts at the Great Lake Centre. Country music sensation Kaylee Bell will perform on Friday 19 April, while Six60 will perform on the Saturday night (20 April).
The ITM Taupō Super400 will see Supercars and various support categories including Porsche Carrera Cup Australia, NZ Central Muscle Cars, Toyota GAZOO Racing 86 Series NZ and Formula Ford NZ racing on the 3.32km International Circuit configuration of the venue over all three days of the event.
Drivers will once again be competing for the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy, named after the late Kiwi Supercars Hall of Fame inductee who contested 113 rounds and 284 races in his decorated career.
Supercars has secured the Taupō round in collaboration with the New Zealand Government and Taupō District Council for at least the next three years.
The ITM Taupō Super400 August 19-21, 2024 at Taupō International Motorsport Park.
Tickets are available through Supercars.com and Ticketek.
