Real benefit in motorsport sponsorship

The Yuasa Battery brand has had a long association with Eastern Southland Car Club events and are a major supporter of this year’s MLT Barry Robinson Memorial Wyndham Rally scheduled for Saturday 10 August.

Century Yuasa Batteries have been in the New Zealand market for close to 35 years and their two brands, Century and Yuasa, are the face of their battery product here.

The Yuasa brand itself has been given an emphasis through the Auto Electrical channel in NZ and Century Yuasa’s preference is to promote that association.

Derek Templeton, South Island Regional Sales Manager for Century Yuasa feels, “we have long standing associations in Southland that go back many years with both our brands. It’s a pleasure to remain in the picture with the Eastern Southland Car Club and their events, plus Rally Secretary, Roger Laird, and I go way back, he wouldn’t allow us not too.”

Asked about the benefits of motorsport sponsorship such as the rally, Derek says “there is real benefit without a doubt. As a company we are strong in motorsport support nationwide. There is a synergy with motorsport and the battery industry, one needs the other, and it is wonderful brand exposure for us.“

The 2024 MLT Barry Robinson Memorial Wyndham Rally will be centred on the township of Wyndham, 45 kilometres east of Invercargill and 25km south of Gore. It will start at the MLT Three Rivers Hotel in Redan Street, Wyndham at 9.00am on Saturday 10 August from where competitors will tackle five Special Stages before the event ends back at the MLT Three Rivers Hotel in Wyndham with the first car due at 3.32pm.

Support for the event comes from the Mataura Licensing Trust, Traffic Management Services, Yuasa Battery plus that of Rayonier Matariki Forests, the Southland District Council, Gore District Council, Prime Range Fresh Shop Lorneville, Matt McRae and the landowners on the rally route.
