MotorSport New Zealand CEO resigns

Elton Goonan has resigned as MotorSport New Zealand’s Chief Executive Officer effective 27 June 2024.

After five and half years with New Zealand’s governing body of motorsport, Goonan is ready to pursue new opportunities and spend more time with his family.

“After discussions with the Board over the past few weeks, I have decided to step down from the role and to take some time to reset and focus on my family,” says Goonan.

“It has been a privilege to work with the dedicated team at MotorSport New Zealand and our incredible volunteers across the country through the challenges of recent years. Together, we continue to see a wide array of motorsport events run most weekends of the year, from grassroots to internationally-accredited rally and race events.

“I’m sure the organisation and the sport will continue to thrive and grow, and I look forward to supporting the sport in the future.”

Like other sporting organisations, MotorSport New Zealand went through numerous challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic and the organisation helped its member clubs return to active competition through its Back in Motion programme. Other recent projects include the transition to the iQuailify Online Training system, expanding the suite of member benefits on offer to the licence holders and, more recently, overseeing the introduction of the MotorSport Online system.

“Elton has contributed in numerous ways during his tenure with MotorSport New Zealand,” says Deborah Day, President of MotorSport New Zealand. “We appreciate his passion for the sport and wish him all the best with his future endeavours.

“We remain focussed on promoting, growing and developing motorsport in New Zealand and look forward to a new chapter of growth and innovation.”
