Liam Lawson re-signs with Racing Bulls for 2026 Formula 1 season

Kiwi Formula 1 talent Liam Lawson has officially been re-signed by Racing Bulls for the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship, marking another major milestone in the young New Zealander’s rapidly ascending career.

Lawson’s re-signing cements his place on the F1 grid as the team transitions into the new era of Formula 1’s technical regulations in 2026. The announcement follows a 2025 campaign where Lawson has continued to demonstrate race-craft, maturity, and speed well beyond his years—reinforcing his reputation as one of the sport’s most exciting emerging stars.

“I’m really looking forward to racing with VCARB in 2026”, said Lawson.

“It’s an opportunity I’ll continue to be grateful for as we enter a year of change in F1. I’m ready to get to work with the team as we prepare for the challenging season ahead. It’s going to be and exciting year and I can’t wait to kick it off with my first pre-season with the team.”

Since first stepping into F1 as a reserve and then full-time driver, Lawson has consistently delivered standout performances. His racecraft under pressure, trademark aggression in wheel-to-wheel battles, and ability to extract performance from the car in changing conditions have earned him widespread praise from the F1 paddock and global fanbase.

Racing Bulls have highlighted Lawson’s development, professionalism, and raw pace as key reasons behind extending his contract into the new regulation cycle—an era that will see new power unit rules, chassis changes, and fresh opportunities for teams to reset competitive order.

“Liam has shown impressive performance and professionalism throughout this year, he has excelled when conditions have been at their hardest and we look forward to building on this in 2026,” said Alan Permane Team Principal of Visa Cash App Racing Bulls.

Lawson’s continued presence in Formula 1 is another proud moment for New Zealand motorsport, strengthening the country’s long and storied legacy in the world’s premier racing category. He follows in the footsteps of legends such as Bruce McLaren, Denny Hulme, and Chris Amon, continuing a tradition of Kiwi excellence on the world stage.

MotorSport New Zealand President Deborah Day says Lawson’s re-signing reflects both his outstanding ability and the high regard the global motorsport community has for New Zealand drivers.

“Liam continues to make all of New Zealand incredibly proud,” said Day.

“His work ethic, adaptability, and racing instinct have set him apart from the moment he arrived in the international spotlight. To have him remain on the Formula 1 grid for 2026 is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the strength of New Zealand motorsport.”
