Liam Lawson joins Charlotte Circus grid
Kiwi Formula 2 and DTM racer Liam Lawson will join the grid for tonight’s Oval Street Stock esport event. The Red Bull Racing Junior is fresh off a tough weekend at the latest DTM round at the Nurburgring.
Lawson, an avid sim racer, has enjoyed competing in many esport events in recent times including appearances in the Formula 1 esport series.
The first Charlotte Circus event will take place at 7:00pm tonight. Competitors will line up in the JR Motorsport Street Stock for a series of races on the oval circuit. Designed as an entry-level oval race car, the Street Stocks provide close, entertaining and flat-out race from flag to flag.
Midday on Saturday competitors will swap bump drafting for joker laps with a rallycross event taking place on the World Rally Cross track. Drivers will have a choice of car with the Ford Fiesta RS, VW Beetle and Subaru WRX STI all on offer. The always exciting rallycross discipline will put on a spectacular display of mudslinging, door-banging, wheel-to-wheel action!
Sunday lunchtime will combine the highspeed oval with the twisty infield section track in a race on the roval. The roval circuit uses almost all of the 2.4km oval track as well as the new infield portion of the track to create a 17-turn 3.6km roval course. Drivers will line up in the same Indy Pro 2000 car that Kiwi racer Hunter McElrea competes in for a true sampling of American junior formula racing.
All three events will be broadcast live on MotorSport New Zealand’s Facebook, Youtube and Twitch accounts. Renowned commentator Craig ‘Sooty’ Lord will again be calling all the action. Tonight’s coverage starts at 7:00pm.
