Competitor Entries are Live for George Begg Festival 2025
Start your engines: competitor entries for the 2025 George Begg Festival are now live.
The George Begg Festival is racing like the good old days, and pays tribute to homegrown Southland hero George Begg, who built 18 racecars between 1965 and 1974 from his workshop in Drummond.
It is an event that attracts world-class drivers, including none other than Dunedin motorsport legend Emma Gilmour.
Originally a horse rider, Emma has always enjoyed the thrill of taking the reins, or these days, the wheel.
She is getting ready for her first George Begg Festival and could not be more excited to be coming south in April 2025.
“I love Southland and the southern hospitality,” she said.
One of the star drivers of this year’s Southern Lights Rally, she can’t wait to get back south and says there isn’t a better combination than doing what you love in a place as magnificent as Invercargill, and all to celebrate the legend himself George Begg.
“I love coming down and competing.”
Festival owner Scott O’Donnell said a powerhouse line up is starting to be announced, as competitors from all over are preparing to go head-to-head next year at Teretonga.
The countdown is officially on to a retro racing event unlike any other in New Zealand.
