Celebrating Our Unsung Heroes: International Volunteer Day 2024
Today, on International Volunteer Day, MotorSport New Zealand takes a moment to shine a spotlight on the incredible individuals who fuel our sport with their passion, dedication, and tireless commitment: our volunteers.
From the marshals standing trackside in all weather conditions to the timekeepers ensuring precision, from the scrutineers maintaining safety standards to the event organisers working tirelessly behind the scenes and the countless other important roles, our volunteers are the backbone of motorsport in New Zealand. Their contributions allow thousands of competitors, teams, and fans to experience the thrill of motorsport every year.
New Zealand’s motorsport heritage is deeply intertwined with the spirit of volunteerism. Many of our most iconic events—ranging from grassroots club days to high-profile championships—owe their success to the tireless efforts of these individuals. Some volunteers dedicate decades of their lives to the sport, becoming mentors and role models for the next generation.
Without volunteers, motorsport simply wouldn’t happen. They ensure safety, fairness, and professionalism at every level. Their collective knowledge and skills uphold the high standards New Zealand motorsport is known for, both at home and on the international stage.
“Our volunteers embody the very best of our motorsport community,” said MotorSport New Zealand President Deborah Day.
“Their passion and hard work create the foundation upon which we can build success. On behalf of MotorSport New Zealand, I extend my heartfelt thanks to every single volunteer for all that you do.”
