AMG GT4 Entry for James Sax
James Sax will compete in a Mercedes-AMG GT4 in the upcoming season of the Summerset GT New Zealand Championship when racing gets underway at Taupo later this month.
The AMG entry will be somewhat of a family affair, where it is hoped that James will be joined by his father John Sax to share driving duties. Though it is some years since John has raced, he has multiple Nissan Mobil 500’s under his belt, Sandown 500, Bathurst 1000 entries, and a Bathurst 12 hour start as recently as 2009.
“It has been a lifelong dream to race with one of my hero’s, my Dad, John Sax. He raced in the late 80s early 90s, my sister and I had our birthday cakes on the race car bonnet until we were about nine, so the whole family has a good dose of 98 unleaded in the blood!” says James.
“I think the GT New Zealand structure is the best in New Zealand motorsport for us to race together and with the added BOP we think this is wise to keep racing competitive, sensible and making fantastic spectating.”
The Sax AMG GT4 entry will be run out of the successful Mach 1 Engineering outfit.
“Ricky and the Mach1 team are so professional, driven, customer focused and have a massive future in motorsport. They have made the jump into GT NZ so smooth and so easy.”
“Add to that they won the GT4 championship with Jono McFarlane in an AMG.”
For the season, James says it will be mostly about enjoyment.
“Make some great memories as a family and with friends. As a Driver, have a blast, drive to the best of my abilities.”
Each round of the Summerset GT New Zealand Championship will feature two 30-minute races along with one 60-minute race with a compulsory pit stop. There will be the option of one or two drivers per car with the 60-minute race also worth extra points.
