William Exton selected for McLaren GT Driver Test in Spain
Giltrap Group is proud to announce that McLaren Junior Scholarship Driver, William Exton, has been selected to participate in an exclusive McLaren GT driver test at Circuito de Navarra in Northern Spain, taking place August 5–6.
Exton, 21, earned his place through an outstanding performance in the Giltrap Motorsport Junior Scholarship, where he emerged victorious from a pool of nearly one hundred of New Zealand’s most promising young drivers. His success continued as he dominated the New Zealand GT4 Championship, ultimately claiming the title behind the wheel of a McLaren Artura GT4.
Now, Exton will join top talent from around the globe for a two-day evaluation with McLaren, where he will test both the GT4-spec Artura and the GT3-spec 720S on the 4.3km Circuito de Navarra – a track renowned for hosting elite motorsport events including the Superleague Formula and FIA GT1 World Championship.
Currently competing in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Australia, Exton has already made waves with a round win on debut at Phillip Island, further solidifying his reputation as one of the region’s rising stars.
William Exton shared his excitement; “I’m incredibly excited about this opportunity in Spain and very grateful to the Giltrap Group,” said Exton.
“Earlier this year, I had the privilege of racing with the Giltrap Group and winning the New Zealand GT Championship, an experience that earned me a driver assessment with McLaren.
“I’m heading over with an open mind, knowing there are no guarantees, but I’m committed to giving it everything I’ve got. My focus is on showcasing my skills and abilities to the team.
“The goal is clear – to earn a place as a McLaren Junior Driver.”
Hamish Miller – Head of Giltrap Group Motorsport added; “We’re delighted to have facilitated this opportunity for William via the McLaren Junior Scholarship and looking forward to seeing how he performs in Spain.
“Helping kiwis fly on the world motorsport stage is embedded in our DNA and following his success in the NZ GT Championship we’re confident William will acquit himself well and take full advantage of this unique experience”
This milestone marks a significant step in Exton’s motorsport journey and underscores
the success of the Giltrap Group’s commitment to developing young racing talent.
