Track to town to kickstart ITM Taupō Super440 for fans in New Zealand

All 24 Supercars will return to the streets of Taupō for the pre-event Track to Town journey, that in 2024 provided incredible images of thousands of fans lining streets and greeting drivers upon arrival.

On April 10, the full fleet of Repco Supercars Championship will be making their way from the Taupō International Motorsport Park to Taupō’s riverside precinct to meet with fans on the eve of this year’s highly anticipated New Zealand event.

The Track to Town will see all drivers take their Chevrolet Camaros and Ford Mustangs from the circuit on a 12km journey to the Roberts Street live site, the day before opening practice of the ITM Taupō Super440.

The convoy is set to depart at 3:45pm local time and fans are encouraged to line the streets along the route to capture the Supercars in action against the stunning backdrop of Taupō before they arrive to Tapuaeharuru on the lake front located near the #LoveTaupō sign in the town centre.

All 24 Supercars cars will remain on display during a free autograph session for fans, before drivers embark on the trip back to the circuit ahead of Friday’s opening practice.

Supercars General Manager of Motorsport Tim Edwards said: “We are sincerely grateful to the Taupō District Council for their unwavering support in making this unique event possible.

“The Track to Town journey is an exciting project that brings the Supercars experience right to the heart of Taupō, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to showcase our sport in such a vibrant community.”

“We invite fans to join us at the live site and at vantage points along the way, as Supercars take to the streets against the breathtaking backdrop of Taupō.”

Following Thursday night’s autograph session in Taupō all eyes turn to action on track. In 2024, the event opened with an emotional race victory for proud kiwi Andre Heimgartner.

The ITM Taupō Super440 will see Supercars and various support categories including NZ Super V8s, NZ Central Muscle Cars and Toyota GAZOO Racing 86 Series NZ racing on the 3.32km International Circuit configuration of the venue over all three days of the event.

Drivers will once again be competing for the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy, named after the late Kiwi Supercars Hall of Fame inductee who contested 113 rounds and 284 races in his decorated career. Anton De Pasquale claimed the 2024 title, edging out Heimgartner.

Supercars has secured the Taupō round in collaboration with the New Zealand Government and Taupō District Council.

The ITM Taupō Super440 runs 11-13 April at Taupō International Motorsport Park. Tickets are available through Supercars.com
