Titles to be decided at Hampton Downs in Summerset GT New Zealand Finale

Four rounds down, four different circuits, 12 races won – the Summerset GT New Zealand Championship will be decided this weekend at Hampton Downs for the final round of the 2024/25 season.

At the top of the Open Class points table the title looks like it will come down to the wire. Defending Champion Rick Armstrong in his Porsche 992 sits on 884.5 points, from Mercedes AMG GT2 pilot Joel Giddy who is just 32 points behind on 852.5.

Entering the final round, third place in the Championship is Luke Manson on 779.5, while Paul Pedersen is in fourth spot on 717.

While Pedersen is set to miss the final round due to other commitments, this opens the door for Sam Fillmore to make a late charge up the championship ladder – currently in fifth spot on 716 points.

This weekend will see six Porsche 992 machines take the track in the hands of Rick Armstrong, Luke Manson, Sam Fillmore, Paul Kelly, Sam Cotterill, and Marco Giltrap who is in Junior Pro.

Shaun Varney will run his Porsche 991.2, James Parker returns in the sole IRC GT machine after some strong results at rounds three and four down south, while Championship contender Joel Giddy will field his Mercedes AMG GT2.

Over in GT4, McLaren driver William Exton holds a 200.5 lead over Mercedes AMG driver James Sax. Though with a comfortable lead in the GT4 Championship, and a favourite to win the title, there are still 262.5 points up for grabs across the weekend’s three races – the GT4 Championship battle is still in play.

Toyota Supra driver Allan Sargeant sits in third on 808 and also leads GT4 Masters.

He will be joined this weekend by young gun Kaleb Kgatoa – doing a 30 minute race each, and sharing the 1-hour race together.

The Porsche Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport of Tony Quinn and Kent Quinn returns rounding out the GT4 field.

The racing at Hampton Downs will see two 30-minute races and a single 1-hour feature race held over the weekend.
