Thomson to continue learning curve at Coromandel

Christchurch’s Dylan Thomson heads to the penultimate round of the Brian Green Property Group New Zealand Rally Championship, the Dayle ITM Goldrush Rally Coromandel, ready to continue his learning curve in his first season aboard a four-wheel drive car.

After three successful seasons in the front-wheel drive Ford Fiesta ST, Thomson teamed up with Specialised Auto Services to drive their Subaru Impreza STi for the 2019 season and while learning the car, has moved into third position in the overall standings.

Thomson and co-driver Amy Hudson head to the event with confidence, with the Whitianga-based event one where the pair have recorded class podium finishes at each of their three appearances.

“I’m really looking forward to Coromandel, it’s a really tight and twisty rally which is quite different to what we’ve had so far this season and that’s always worked really well for us. Obviously the SAS Subaru is a bit heavier being four-wheel drive, so it’ll be a bit more of a challenge to man handle through the stages,” says Thomson.

“This season has been all about learning and we’re obviously incredibly proud of what we’ve been able to achieve so far. We’re in a position to hold a top three position, which would be pretty satisfying in our first season in a four-wheel drive car.”

The Dayle ITM Goldrush Rally Coromandel kicks off with a ceremonial start on Friday night at 6pm in Whitianga’s Albert Street. The following day sees eight special stages around the Coromandel Peninsula totalling 126 kilometres.

Dylan Thomson Rallysport’s campaign is supported by Total Lubricants, Riordan and West Transport Pukekohe, Drew + Accounting, Harrier Signs, Specialised Auto Services, Steelrite Framing, LJ Hooker, Fowler Homes South Auckland and New Zealand, AA Autocentre Hornby, Jivan Produce, Dunlop, Dixcel and Braketech.
