Terry Carkeek – Technical Manager
Terry Carkeek is one of the more familiar faces to most who have links with MotorSport New Zealand. As our Technical Manager, Terry is responsible for the technical department.
Terry’s involvement in motorsport dates back to the 1960s when he was a flag marshal at the Levin Motor Racing Circuit which soon led him to start competing in gymkhanas.
After dabbling in motorcycle racing in the 1970s and early 1980s, Terry then switched back to four-wheeled competition. After competing in popular classes such as Formula Vee (now Formula First) and Pro7 (now Mazda Racing Series) Terry gained his Clerk of the Course Gold licence and became a Clerk of the Course and Race Director for events including the A1GP.
Terry’s professional background is diverse in the technical and engineering field. Starting out in the Air Force, Terry spent 25 years as an aircraft engineer before spending 12 years in hydraulic engineering. Add on another four years in automotive engineering all whilst building and maintaining his own race cars, it’s safe to say that Terry has plenty of knowledge in the technical field!
As Technical Manager, Terry leads the team of two Technical Advisors, Devan and Mike. He also oversees the technical regulation of our sport to ensure fair and safe competition for all our competitors. Terry is responsible for MotorSport New Zealand’s relationships with third-party technical partners such as the FIA, NZTA and LVVTA.
You will also see Terry floating around the paddock at events as a scrutineer for some of our championship classes.
