Richie Stanaway confirmed for full-time Supercars drive in 2024 with Penrite Racing
Penrite Racing are proud to announce that Richie Stanaway will complete their driver line-up for the 2024 Repco Supercars Championship season. Richie will join fellow Kiwi Matt Payne in what will be the second year of the Gen3 era. Stanaway will replace David Reynolds who will leave the team at the end of the 2023 Supercars season.
Stanaway boasts an incredibly successful racing pedigree having competed in Australia, New Zealand, Asia and Europe over the last 14 years. After becoming a New Zealand Formula Ford Champion in 2009 and German ADAC Formula Masters Champion in 2010, Stanaway went on to win the 2011 German Formula 3 Championship with Van Amersfoort Racing. With multiple race wins and podium finishes in GP3 and Formula Renault 3.5, Richie moved onto GP2 (now Formula 2) in 2015 where he recorded two race wins including the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix.
His experience extends to a series in Porsche Supercup with DAMS in 2013, the same year he joined Aston Martin as a factory GT driver.
Setting his sights on the Supercars scene, Stanaway made his debut in the championship in 2016 and won the Sandown 500 in 2017. More recently, he partnered with Greg Murphy in a 2022 wildcard entry for the Repco Bathurst 1000, qualifying an impressive 4th and finishing The Great Race just outside the top ten.
He will team up alongside three-time Supercars Champion Shane van Gisbergen as Co-Driver for the 2023 Supercars endurance rounds at Sandown and Bathurst.
“I would like to thank Penrite Racing for the incredible opportunity to be a part of the team next year,” said Stanaway.
“I’ve been impressed by the direction the team has been heading in recent years and have been enjoying my time in the Gen3 era thus far so I am excited to see what we can achieve together.”
Team Owner Stephen Grove was excited about signing Stanaway.
“As we continue to build the race team, securing a driver of Richie’s calibre is extremely exciting; giving the team the opportunity to challenge for race wins and championships. Richie’s experience and feedback will be great for the team to further develop moving forward,” said Grove.
