NZ Fuel situation update
MotorSport New Zealand has been monitoring the fuel situation in New Zealand closely. Currently, fuel supply in NZ remains stable and there are no restrictions on fuel usage. The government indicates this will not materially change in the foreseeable future.
Of course, there has been a sustained increase in fuel prices for some time now. Despite this, we have not seen a decline in participation trends.
For the month of March, our total number of motorsport participations was almost identical to March 2025. In fact, the total number of event permits for March 2026 was less than March 2025, meaning the number of participants per event for March 2026 was 18.5% higher than 12 months ago.
The demand for motorsport is still strong. Our advice to clubs is to continue to plan and run events as you usually would so the sport can continue to deliver positive social and economic benefits to the communities and towns where motorsport takes place.
MotorSport New Zealand will continue to monitor the fuel situation closely, as well as its impact on motorsport, and provide updates as needed.
