He will join fellow New Zealander Clay Osborne among the 12 candidates at the Algarve International Circuit in Portimão, Portugal.

The Porsche Junior Shootout brings together leading young drivers nominated by Porsche one-make championships around the world. Candidates are assessed both on and off the track, with the winner receiving Porsche support to progress to the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. The shootout is a key step in Porsche’s international motorsport development programme.
“This is a huge opportunity. Every young driver in a Carrera Cup series around the world is working towards a shot at the shootout, so to be nominated this year is really special,” said Giltrap.
Clay Osborne, originally from the Waikato, has been nominated by Porsche Motorsport Australia following his second full season in the Porsche Equity-One Carrera Cup Australia with TekworkX. His season included his first round win in Darwin.
With Giltrap and Osborne nominated, New Zealand accounts for two of the 12 candidates drawn from Porsche one-make championships worldwide.
“It’s also incredible to have two Kiwis in the shootout this year, with Clay Osborne representing Australia,” said Giltrap. “That says a lot about the depth of talent coming out of New Zealand.”
Fellow Kiwi Earl Bamber, whose team runs Giltrap’s Carrera Cup Asia entry, followed the same route. Nominated by Carrera Cup Asia, he won Porsche’s international scholarship shootout in 2013 and claimed the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup title in his debut season in 2014. He went on to become a Porsche works driver and eventually, a two-time overall winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
“Earl showed what’s possible when you take your chance, so I’m heading to Portugal to give it everything,” said Giltrap.
Following the shootout, Giltrap will return to Asia for another significant opportunity, testing a Porsche 911 GT3 R at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia from 22 to 24 November. He will be joined by fellow Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Talent Pool driver Rodrigo Almeida.
