Leitch to race new Lamborghini Temerario in Asian Le Mans Series
Leipert Motorsport has confirmed Brendon Leitch for the upcoming 2026/27 Asian Le Mans Series in a new Lamborghini Temerario GT3.
Leitch will partner Australia’s Nicolas Stati and another yet-to-be-confirmed Bronze-rated driver for the three-round series.
Despite the name, the series will be held in Europe. That’s due to conflict and travel uncertainty in the Middle East, which meant returning to Dubai and Abu Dhabi was not possible.
The series will begin with a visit to Paul Ricard in the south of France on November 14-15 before resuming in the new year on January 16-17 at Jerez. The season concludes at Portimao on February 20-21.
All three rounds feature two four-hour races headlined by the new Hypercar class alongside LMP2 and GT3.
After an unfortunately short-lived GT Open cameo at Monza last weekend, Leitch travelled to Barcelona to test with Leipert Motorsport.
An added bonus was the opportunity to sample the new GT3 and Super Trofeo offerings from Lamborghini.
The new Lamborghini Temerario GT3 is in service globally while the Super Trofeo is set to make its competitive debut globally in 2027.
“Thanks to Lamborghini, I drove the Temerario GT3 along with the Temerario Super Trofeo on Monday in Barcelona,” said Leitch.
“I’m very grateful Lamborghini let me get behind the wheel because I was initially just planning to test the current-model Super Trofeo.
“The two versions of the Temerario are incredible and are a big change from the Huracan, going from the naturally-aspirated V10 to the turbocharged V8.
“I can see the potential that the GT3 car has, and there is a lot more left in it. Of course, being a relatively new car, there is still some work to do, but I’m confident that with a bit of testing and with some great support from Lamborghini that we’ll be competitive.
“It’s been great to work with Nic this year, who is achieving a lot already at a very young age. For me, it’s just about getting him comfortable in the car and extracting the most out of himself and the machine.”
Leitch will continue his mammoth five-week racing streak at Beijing on October 2-4 when he returns to GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS with Harmony Racing and co-driver Jiajun Song in the Ferrari 296 GT3 EVO.
It will be the first time Leitch has raced on a traditional street circuit, lined with unforgiving concrete walls.
“I’m excited for the weekend here in China’s capital,” said Leitch.
“I’ve driven on some street circuits before but not a proper one – only Le Mans and Bathurst, but they don’t really count in the traditional sense.
“It should be a good challenge. JJ keeps getting better every time we race, but Beijing will be a new challenge for him getting used to the proximity of the walls to the car and the bumpy characteristics of the track surface.
“We’ve had heaps of speed lately but are still searching for our second GT World Challenge Asia trophy together, which doesn’t feel far away. We just need everything to go right.”
Qualifying for GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS gets underway at 1:50pm AEST before Race 1 at 5:45pm AEST. Race 2 takes place on Sunday at 4:00pm AEDT.
Following the GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS at Beijing, Leitch will return to Sydney to begin preparing for his Dunlop Super2 Series debut with Team Kiwi Racing at the Repco Bathurst 1000.
