Leitch expects to be competitive in both Lamborghini Super Trofeo and GT World Challenge races in Barcelona

German based Kiwi Brendon Leitch expects to be competitive in Barcelona this coming weekend in both the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe Championship and the Fanatec GT World Challenge powered by AWS series with Leipert Motorsport.

It’s the fifth round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe Championship in which Leitch and German team mate, Gerhard Watzinger, sit fourth overall in the series looking for their first podium.

“I think this will be our best opportunity for a podium,” commented Leitch. “Gerhard (Watzinger) was in the car at the recent 24Hr of Barcelona so expect him to keep the momentum going.”

Driving a Lamborghini LP 620-2 Huracán Super Trofeo, Leitch and Watzinger will face two fifty-minute races in the Pro Am Class over the weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain.

Leitch will also compete in the fifth endurance round of the 2022 Fanatec GT World Challenge powered by AWS with team mates Isaac Tutumlu (ESP) and Tyler Cooke (USA) in the Silver category. The team will take part in a three-hour endurance race on Sunday afternoon.

The Leipert Motorpsort squad is looking for its first finish of the series after a long and difficult season which started back at Imola, Italy, in April.

“The car will be fast there (Barcelona) and I’m expecting some proper pace,” said Leitch. “My team mates haven’t driven there in this particular car although Isaac is from Barcelona.”

Qualifying for the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe Championship takes place Saturday morning with a 50-minute race (rolling start) timed to go at 15:40 local time (2:40am Sunday NZ time). A second 50-minute race (rolling start) takes place Sunday morning at 10:30 (9:30pm Sunday NZ time).

Qualifying for the Fanatec GT World Challenge powered by AWS is on Sunday morning (9:15) with a three- hour endurance race starting at 15:00 (2am Monday NZ time).
