Elton Goonan – Acting CEO

Elton has spent his professional life in the motorsport industry. After competing first on two wheels, then moving to four-wheel competition overseas, Elton quickly picked up multiple driving training roles abroad as well as engineering and racing.

After his many years of professional driver training and high-level competition, Elton spent four years at Sweden’s Sturup Raceway, first as Operations Manager before progressing to General Manager.

Upon returning home to New Zealand, Elton joined Formula Challenge Group as their General Manager where he helped the business introduce a driver training arm, AutoSense. When Tony Quinn acquired Hampton Downs Motorsport Park in 2015, Elton came onboard as their Track Manager and contributed a huge amount to finishing the development of the circuit and its facilities.

In December 2018 the opportunity to join MotorSport New Zealand in the Competitions Manager role presented itself and Elton made the move down to Wellington to join our team. From there Elton was appointed GM – Motorsport in February 2020 and Acting CEO in June 2020.

Elton is responsible for leading the MotorSport New Zealand team through day to day operations and leading the administration of the sport.
