Dual Mercedes AMG GT2’s to Make Racing Debut in Summerset GT New Zealand Championship

Not one, but two Mercedes AMG GT2’s will make their racing debut’s at the second round of the Summerset GT New Zealand Championship at Manfeild this coming weekend.

It was initially reported that one of the new GT machines from Mercedes AMG Germany was on its way to New Zealand for racer Paul Pedersen, who raced a Porsche last season.

But a second one has also arrived for Joel Giddy, who is a front runner in the GT4 category in his AMG GT4.

Both cars will be run out of the successful Mach 1 Engineering team of Ricky Grey.

The Mercedes-AMG GT2 is the most powerful homologated race car in history of Mercedes’ Customer Racing programme. Sitting between a GT4 spec car and a GT3, the GT2 boasts both more horsepower and top speed above GT3 level, however less aerodynamics.

The new Mercedes-AMG GT2 boasts a AMG 4.0 litre V8 biturbo engine, producing 707hp.

The arrival of the new Mercedes will allow both Pedersen and Giddy to make a strong attempt at the overall Open Class Championship title.
